I wanted to brew beer - but ended up learning double entry accounting - one thing I've had to learn in order to manage our brewery startup. This great article from the New York Times details the history of accounting in renaissance Italy and the Netherlands, and as perhaps something that is essential today as well - thoughtful article!!!! And something I can personally appreciate now that I've taken the plunge....
